Students will prepare and present one book talk presentation per quarter. This will be an independent presentation. We will begin in the first few weeks of school with a practice book talk using a picture book. For the practice book talk, students will work with a partner and practice presenting together. Students will always be given a rubric so that they know exactly what I will be grading them on during each presentation. It is important to use this rubric to prepare.
Note: Students may use a book for the book talk that is also included on the Independent Reading Book Requirement. |
First, select a "just right" book and read to be sure it is something you are interested in sharing with the class. Be sure to read your book from cover to cover. |
Remember, record notes on sticky notes as you read about the main ideas you will include in your summary. Use a sticky note to mark the part you will read aloud to the class. Be sure to use the rubric to check your work for completeness. This is how you will earn your best score. |
Finally, when your presentation is written, take time to practice it in front of an audience of family members or friends. Practice making eye contact and make sure everything flows smoothly. |
